Admissions in IIST – ISAT 2013

Admission to Under Graduate Programmes (B.Tech. 2013)
Admission to Undergraduate Programs (B.Tech) for the year 2013 will be based on the All India Rank List (including category rank list) to be prepared and published for the year 2013 by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). This rank list is based on 60% weightage of score in the Joint Entrance Examination JEE (Main) – 2013, and 40% of normalized score in Class 12th or other qualifying examinations.
IIST currently offers B.Tech programmes in Aerospace Engineering, Avionics and Physical Sciences.
B.Tech. Programs
1. B.Tech. (AEROSPACE ENGINEERING) : is a 4-year under-graduate degree programme oriented towards the needs of space technology, and has significant overlap with Mechanical Engineering, including Mechanical Design and Manufacturing Sciences, and Space Dynamics. This is similar to programmes of the same title available in many reputed Institutions in India and abroad.
Students with B.Tech.  Degree in Aerospace Engineering can further specialize in Flight Mechanics, Aerodynamics, Thermal and Propulsion, Structure and Design, and Manufacturing Science.
2. B.Tech. (AVIONICS) : is a 4-year under-graduate degree programme comprising of subjects of study in Electronics and Communications Engineering programmes, in addition to study of Advanced Electronics in Digital Communication, Control Systems and Computer Systems used in Aerospace Systems.
People with B.Tech. degree in Avionics can later specialize in areas like DSP, RF & Communication, Antenna, Power Electronics, Micro Electronics, Control Systems etc.
3. B.Tech. (PHYSICAL SCIENCES) : is a 4-year under-graduate degree programme oriented towards application of basic sciences in Space Science and Technology. The programme lays a strong foundation in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, and gives exposure to important applications of space technology such as Remote Sensing and GIS, Astronomy and Astrophysics, and Earth System Sciences.
People with B.Tech. degree in Physical Sciences can later specialize in areas like Atmospheric and Ocean Sciences, Solid Earth Science, Astronomy and Astrophysics, Remote Sensing & GIS, and Chemical Systems.
Seats Available
The total number of seats for the undergraduate programmes in IIST is 156. The branch-wise distribution of seats is as follows:
B.Tech. in Aerospace Engineering: 60 seats
B.Tech. in Avionics: 60 seats
B.Tech. in Physical Sciences: 36 seats
Reservation of Seats
Candidates belonging to certain categories are admitted to seats reserved based on relaxed criteria, as per applicable rules of the Government of India. Categories included are:
* Scheduled Castes (SC).
* Scheduled Tribes (ST).
* Other Backward Castes (OBC) belonging to Non-Creamy Layer (NCL).
* Physically Disabled (PD).
Reservation of seats in ISAT 2013 Entrance Exam will be governed by the Govt. of India Rules for Central Educational Institutions (CEI).
Eligibility Criteria
The candidates are advised to go through the ISAT 2013 Eligibility Criteria before applying for the ISAT 2013. The candidates who fulfill all the conditions specified in ISAT 2013 Eligibility Criteria will be ELIGIBLE and hence, can take the exam.

Only the candidates belonging to the country of INDIA are Eligible to take ISAT 2013.

Date of Birth:

OBC and General category candidates should be born ON or AFTER first week of October, 1988 and the candidates belonging to SC and ST category should be born ON or AFTER the first week of October, 1983 to be eligible as per ISAT 2013 Eligibility Criteria.The Date of Birth Eligibility Criteria will be compared against the date mentioned in the First Board/High School/ its equivalent exam.However, if the certificate doesn’t mention the date of birth, a PROOF issued by Competent Authority has to be submitted by the candidate at the time of counselling to be Eligible as per ISAT 2013 Eligibility Criteria.

Qualifying Exam:

The Qualifying Exam ISAT 2013 Eligibility Criteria defines the aggregate percentage a candidate should have in order to be eligible for ISAT 2013.The Aggregate Percentage as per ISAT 2013 Eligibility Criteria for the General and OBC candidates is at least 70% in Chemistry, mathematics and Physics (PCM) and 60% for the SC/ST/PD candidates in PCM in Qualifying Exam.To be ELIGIBLE as per ISAT 2013 Eligibility Criteria the candidates should have made the first attempt at the Qualifying Exam in 2012 or 2013.Only the candidates who have scored the Requisite Percentage in the Qualifying Exam in 2012 or 2013 will be eligible. However, if the candidates have appeared for the QE in 2013, they should submit the proof of passing the exam with the required percentage to be eligible for ISAT 2013 under ISAT 2013 Eligibility Criteria.The last date of submission of this PROOF will be around the first week of July, 2013.A list has been given in the Information Brochure of ISAT 2013 which has the names of various Qualifying Exams which will be considered for the ISAT 2013 Eligibility Criteria.

Minimum Marks in Class X or Equivalent Examination:

According to the ISAT 2013 Eligibility Criteria, the candidates of General and OBC categories must have the aggregate percentage of 70% and the ST/SC/PD candidates must have a percentage of 60%.

The decision of THE DIRECTOR, IIST will be final in regard to ISAT 2013 Eligibility Criteria in every condition.
Registration Procedure
The official website of the exam is, where the candidates have to REGISTER ONLINE.
They have to fill the ISAT Online Application Form. This procedure requires a valid email id of the candidate which has to be kept alive and secured till the admission process is complete.
The online registration for ISAT 2013 will be open from the first week of November 2012 to the last week of December 2012.
The OBC and GEN category candidates have to submit a NON-REFUNDABLE Examination Fee for ISAT 2013 of Rs. 600/- and Rs. 300/-  for ST, SC, and PD.
Prior applying for ISAT 2013, the candidate should ensure that he/she fulfills all the conditions of the eligibility criteria.
Candidate has to choose at least 3 different cities as the examination centers for ISAT 2013 in the order of preference from the list given in the brochure.
The test center allocation for ISAT 2013 Entrance Exam will be done on the preference order of the candidate but, IIST reserves all rights to change or cancel any of them due to lack of participation from that region.
No request for change of any information filled in the Online Application From of ISAT 2013 will be entertained at any stage for any candidate.
After the successful Registration, a unique ISAT 2013 REGISTRATION NUMBER will be allotted to every candidate. It should be preserved till the admission process is complete and is to be used in all the future references.
Once the registration is complete, the candidate has to download the CHALLAN FORM IN TRIPLICATE from the website of ISAT 2013 for remitting the fee in any one branch of SBI, PNB or UBI.
ISAT 2013 fee will not be remitted in any other form.
NRI candidates, however, can remit their fee from any abroad bank, via a DD drawn in favor of:
The DD should be payable at THIRUVANANTHAPURAM. Any DD of ISAT 2013 fee from any INDIAN BANK will NOT be ACCEPTED.
The last date of fee remittance will be around the first week of January 2013.
Out of the 3 Copies of CHALLAN, INSTITUTE COPY should be sent via SPEED POST till the third week of January 2013 with the REGISTRATION NUMBER of the candidate mentioned clearly at top the envelope to:

No other documents must be sent with the Institute copy of CHALLAN.
No acknowledgment receipt for ISAT 2013 will be sent to any candidate individually. However, the candidates can check the status of their application on the IIST by the third week of February 2013.
There will be a portal for checking the application status of ISAT 2013, where the candidate has to enter his/her Registration Number as the login id and password as the one specified during registering for ISAT 2013.
The HALL TICKETS will be available on the websites by the first week of March 2013, which have to be downloaded and print out by the candidates. ISAT 2013 Hall ticket will bear the details of examination center, candidate’s credentials and a space to affix recent photograph and signature of the candidate.
The candidates have to attest this hall ticket of ISAT 2013 by the Head of the Institution he/she studied at or is studying.
The facility of downloading the ADMIT CARD/HALL TICKET will end during the second week of April 2013.
Candidates have to bring their Hall Tickets on the day of ISAT 2013 Entrance Exam as without them, nobody would be allowed to sit in the exam.
