National Aptitude Test in Architecture – NATA Entrance Exam

NATA is National Aptitude Test in Architecture. Students who want to pursue a career in architecture after their 10+2 need to sit for NATA and subsequently clear the examination for getting a seat in any of the architecture colleges in India. The Council of Architecture (CoA) , through its academic unit, National Institute of Advanced Studies in Architecture, at Pune is the apex unit for conducting NATA every year for admission to its 5-year Bachelor of Architecture (B. Arch) in any of CoA approved architectural colleges in the country. The admission to first year is subject to clearing the aptitude test in architecture.
NATA Eligibility Criteria:
10+2 or equivalent from a recognised board or university with Mathematics as one of the subjects and a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate.
OR
10+3 (Diploma) in any stream recognised by Central/State Governments with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate.
OR
International Baccalaureate Diploma, after 10 years of schooling, with a minimum 50% marks in aggregate and mathematics as one of the compulsory subjects.
Taking the NATA Test :

NATA can be given from 1st January to 30th September every year at specified test centers.

Appointments for taking the NATA test are scheduled on first come first serve basis.

A candidate can appear for NATA test any number of times in a year subject to full payment of fees for every attempt(however not the best score but the average score is taken into account).
Registration for NATA:

One attested copy of standard X- or equivalent mark sheet.

One recent passport size photograph.

One attested copy of identification proof of the candidate bearing his photograph and signature.
The NATA Test :
NATA test is of 200 marks. Minimum qualifying marks is 80/200.
The test consists of two sections.
Section 1 consists of a Drawing Test. There are 3 questions (50 marks +25 marks +25marks = 100 marks). Duration is of 2 hours.
Section 2 comprises of an online computer based test and tests your aesthetic sensitivity. It is of 100 marks and duration is 1 hour.
Things you can carry while appearing for the test:
Geometry Instruments box
Colours (water or poster colours, crayons, etc) along with pencils, brushes, etc.
After conducting NATA, the admission processes are carried out by the respective State government or the Association of architectural Institutions in the State, based on the qualifying score in the NATA exam. A NATA score is valid for 2 years for admission to various CoA approved architectural institutions in the country.
