Physics is an interesting subject yet a tough one. All science subjects are a bit complicated because describing our world is not always intuitive and sometimes needs a conceptual and mathematical understanding which is very advanced. In the beginning, the subject is very basic but if you study further it continues with a higher level of materials such as a number of mathematical problems and laws to remember and hence causes trouble to many students.
In the science stream, physics is a compulsory subject and is also considered as the most important subject from the competitive exams point of view. When it comes to preparing for the physics exam, students generally find it difficult to complete the syllabus due to the presence of complex chapters in it. There are chapters like quantum mechanics, relativity, electricity and much more which requires critical thinking to link concepts into a unified vision. Hence, students need to study smart from the very beginning and follow a well-planned structured study strategy to learn physics in a proper manner.
Here are some tips to study physics that will be beneficial for the students:
- Try to understand the question: You should always read the question carefully in order to find out which chapter the question has come from. Once you have figured out the chapter, again read the question, now you can get a clear idea about what exactly the question requires you to find and this will help you to solve the question in a much easier way. Another tip which is good to remember is that there is always crucial information hidden in the problems. So, you should always focus on finding out the crucial information and the start solving it.
- Catch up on math: Good math skills are a plus for succeeding in physics. If your math skills are not up to the mark, you should definitely devote some time building up your understanding. At the very least, you should have a good understanding of calculus, trigonometry and algebra.
- Add drawings to your answer: Graphics and drawings are judged as the best way of representing the answers to almost every question. It is compulsory to make drawings in order to understand the detailed parts and basic concepts of physics. It is always a good habit to present any concept with the help of a diagram as it will help you to score more. It is also advised to study with the help of diagrams to have a visual understanding of any concept.
- Make note of what you read: Initially read the entire book covering all the chapters without trying to memorize anything but only to focus on understanding. It is good to have handy 3 separate quick revision lists with you, one for important definitions, one for all the derivations and one for important formulae. This will surely help you to do a quick revision before the exam.
Along with these tips, students should also try to find out their own preparation strategy to study physics according to their own comfort.
